Privacy

This site asks you for nothing. There is no sign up, no account, no comment box and no form anywhere on it, so we never learn your name or your email address unless you choose to write to us.

Two things still see your visit, the way they do on most websites. Here is what each of them gets.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits, which is how we decide which crop to write about next. It sets cookies in your browser and records which pages you looked at, roughly where you are (usually the country or county, worked out from your IP address), what device and browser you used, and whether you arrived from a search engine or a link somewhere else.

It does not record your name, your address, or anything else that identifies you as a person. We look at totals, not at individual visitors, and we could not pick you out of the figures if we wanted to.

Google processes this data for us and stores it on their servers. Their privacy policy covers what they do with it after that.

If you would rather not be counted, Google publishes a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics everywhere, not just here. Your browser's tracking protection or any script blocker does the same job. Nothing on this site stops working if you use one: the sowing calendar and the month tabs run in your own browser and do not depend on analytics.

Our host

The site is a set of plain files served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare records the requests it serves, which means your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, and which browser you used. It uses that to deliver the pages and to block attacks. That happens before any of our own code runs. We see only aggregate traffic numbers, never a log of individual visitors.

Links to Irish retailers

Every crop and variety page ends with a list of Irish suppliers who stock the seed. Those are plain links. There is no affiliate code on them and no commission: nobody pays us if you buy. Google Analytics does count clicks on links that lead off the site, so we can see that a retailer link was followed, in the same aggregate way we see page views. Once you land on a retailer's site you are on their site under their own privacy policy, and they will set their own cookies.

What this site does not have

Worth saying plainly, because most sites have some of these and this one has none:

• No advertising, no AdSense, no retargeting pixels.
• No Facebook, Instagram or X tracking.
• No embedded videos, maps or social widgets.
• No comments, user accounts, logins or newsletter.
• No web fonts or scripts loaded from anyone else's server. The site uses the fonts already on your device.

Your rights

Under GDPR you can ask what data is held about you and ask for it to be deleted. In practice we hold nothing that could be traced back to you, so there would be nothing to hand over. For the Google Analytics side, Google is the processor and the opt-out link above is the quickest route.

If this changes

The long term plan is to sell seed directly. That will mean taking orders, which means names, addresses and payment handling, and it would be a genuinely different arrangement to the one described here. This page will be rewritten before any of that goes live, and the date at the top will change with it.
